My financial career has spanned over forty years, and I’ve had the opportunity to work at various levels of loan origination and sales management in both the commercial and consumer lending areas of finance and banking. After several years in commercial financing, I recognized that I was more interested in dealing with customers on a personal level, providing for their personal needs and goals. When I was again able to indulge in a life-long passion of mine, recreational boating, I made some friends in the yacht sales business, and shifted gears in 1979 to making yacht loans to recreational boaters. In 1986, I became active in underwriting residential mortgages with my then employer, a nationwide lender offering yacht, recreational vehicle, auto, and mortgage financing. In 1990, I established and successfully managed my own company until 2000, which offered yacht financing, home mortgages, and property/casualty insurance to customers in the New York City Metropolitan area (New York, New Jersey & Connecticut).
When my wife and I moved to Western North Carolina in 2000, my sole focus became residential mortgage financing. I found that assisting people with buying a first home, a larger home, a second/retirement home, an investment property, or refinancing for a variety of reasons, to be the most personally satisfying endeavor of my career: to help people “where they live.” My years of experience have also taught me three things:
1) be a good – and patient – listener; treat everyone with courtesy and respect,
2) give your honest, best, and most constructive advice to your client, and
3) offer the loan or loans best suited to your borrower’s needs.
