“Achieving YOUR Goal. Consider it Done!”
Bill understands achieving goals in all aspects of life and his real estate client’s can count on the same fervor for them to reach their real estate goals.
He is one of western North Carolina’s best known personalities and business leaders, having had previous careers in communications, computers, newspapers, the Internet and radio. He and his wife, Barbara, opened the area’s first large computer retail store, ComputerLand of Asheville, in 1983 and grew it to a chain of six stores before selling it in 1992. He founded the area’s first Internet service Provider, Internet of Asheville, in 1995, and introduced the Internet to more than 8,000 customers.
His leadership skills were apparent early as a student at N.C. State University in the 1960’s, when he was elected editor of the student newspaper. He continued that trend in the U.S. Army where he volunteered for the Army’s most elite unit, the Green Berets of Special Forces and subsequently earned his Special Forces shoulder tab and Green Beret at the grueling SF Officer’s course at ft. Bragg, NC. He commanded a Special Forces A-Team at Ft. Gulick, Canal Zone, and says “being an A-Team leader was the best job in the Army.” His A-Team was the military free-fall parachute team that traveled throughout South and Central America doing exhibition jumps to further the friendships between the U.S. and our Latin American neighbors.
After serving our country he enjoyed a successful business career in communications that took him from CT, to Ohio and ultimately to Chicago as the head of public relations for a Fortune 100 company. During his years in the corporate world Bill pursued other personal challenges that included skydiving as a serious sport, accumulating morethan 3,000 jumps. He also was a professional race car driver, driving Saab sedans for the Saab factory team and Shelby Cobra sports cars for Team Shelby Racing.
Bill and his wife made the decision to relocate to western North Carolina to start and raise their family and he loves to share his belief based on personal experience that this is the finest place in the world to live and raise a family. After selling his Asheville business he used his communications skills to become a highly popular morning talk show radio host and co-founded The Tribune weekly newspapers in Asheville, Hendersonville and Weaverville.
His belief in giving back to community is proven by his track record as a member of the Asheville Council of Independent Business Owners since 1988, the many boards and commission he has served through the years including two terms on his church vestry. He currently serves on the board of the Asheville Lyric Opera, as well as Asheville Public Art Board. He helped found the Torch Club (a debating society) of WNC and served three terms as president, and also has served as president of the Arden Rotary Club. His personal hobbies include pen and ink sketching, cars, golf and singing in his church choir.
